Eyelash Extensions in Schwäbisch Gmünd: Process, Techniques & Cost
by Sofie Reinik 4 min read
For many of my clients, eyelash extensions are the first step towards a morning without mascara – and yet most of them arrive with the same questions: Does it hurt? How long does it last? And which technique is actually right for me? In this article I’ll walk you through the whole process, exactly as I experience it every day here in Schwäbisch Gmünd.
What eyelash extensions actually are
With eyelash extensions I attach individual, very fine synthetic lashes to your own natural lashes – one by one, not as clusters glued to the skin. That’s the key difference from drugstore lash strips: the extensions sit on the lash, grow out with it and, after a short adjustment period, feel just like your own.
The adhesive never touches your skin. I work exclusively with eye-friendly materials, and throughout the entire treatment your eye stays closed while the lower lash line is gently taped down.
The process – step by step
1. Consultation and mapping
Before the first lash is set, we look together at what you want and what suits your eye shape. I plan what’s called the mapping: which lengths go where? A length that rises towards the outer corner opens up round eyes, while an even length creates a very natural look. Feel free to bring a photo if you have something in mind – it helps enormously.
2. The treatment
You lie back comfortably with your eyes closed. Depending on the set, the application takes between 90 minutes and a good two hours. Many clients actually fall asleep – there’s no pulling, no stinging. At most you’ll feel the gentle taping of the lower lid.
3. Curing and final check
At the end the adhesive cures fully, I brush everything through and we look at the result together in the mirror. Right after the appointment you should keep the lashes dry for about 24 hours – more on that below.
Classic, hybrid or volume – which technique suits you?
This is the most common question, and the honest answer is: it depends on your natural lashes and the look you want.
- Classic extensions: one extension per natural lash. The result is defined and natural – ideal if you already have plenty of your own lashes and simply want the “mascara effect” without mascara.
- Volume (lash fans): several ultra-light fibres per natural lash, fanned out. This adds fullness and depth, even if your own lashes are on the thinner side.
- Hybrid: a mix of both – my tip for anyone who can’t decide. Natural, but with a little more density.
If you’re unsure about the technique, that’s no problem at all: that’s exactly what the consultation is for. You’ll also find an overview of all variants and their durations on our services page.
What do eyelash extensions cost?
In and around Schwäbisch Gmünd, reputable studios usually charge between roughly 50 and 70 euros for a new set – depending on technique and material. Volume tends to cost a little more than classic, because fanning takes considerably more time.
One thing to know: eyelash extensions aren’t a one-off appointment, they live on maintenance. Every two to three weeks a so-called refill tops up what has shed, and a refill costs less than a full new set. I always keep the current prices on the services page.
My advice: don’t be tempted by rock-bottom prices under 30 euros. Good materials and clean work cost money – and this is about your eyes.
How long does it all last?
Your natural lashes follow a natural growth cycle and shed on their own – and the extension on them goes with it. That’s completely normal. With a refill every two to three weeks the look stays full long-term. But how well the lashes hold depends heavily on aftercare. I’ve summarised the mistakes that halve their lifespan in a separate article: Eyelash extension aftercare.
Eyelash extensions or a lash lift instead?
Extensions aren’t the best choice for everyone. If you have naturally strong lashes and simply want them curlier and darker, a lash lift often makes you happier – less upkeep, no refills. You’ll find an honest comparison of both methods here: Lash lift or eyelash extensions?

Frequently Asked Questions
Do eyelash extensions hurt?
No. You lie with your eyes closed, and the extensions are placed on your lashes, never on the skin. The adhesive never touches your skin. Most clients relax so much that they fall asleep during the treatment.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
Your natural lashes shed in their natural cycle, taking the extension with them. With a refill every two to three weeks the look stays full long-term. How well they hold depends largely on the right aftercare.
How often do I need a refill?
Usually every two to three weeks. At a refill I top up what has grown out or shed. A refill is cheaper and quicker than a full new set and keeps your look evenly full.
Can I shower and swim with eyelash extensions?
Yes, after the first 24 hours. Right after the appointment you should avoid water, steam and sauna so the adhesive cures fully. After that, showering, sport and swimming are no problem for your extensions.
